Can menopause cause panic attacks and anxiety ?
According to the Cleveland Clinic it can for some women.
Menopause is not the same for every woman, but it is not the norm to suffer from ongoing panic attacks or chronic anxiety. Estrogen can act as an anti-depressant so when you go through menopause and your estrogen levels drop, you may be at increased risk of anxiety and depression. In 14 separate research studies, results suggested that women who go through menopause earlier (at age 40 or older) had a decreased risk of depression.
If you regularly suffer from some of these symptoms, you may have chronic anxiety – heart racing, hyperventilating, sweating, nausea, dizziness, racing thoughts, poor sleep, poor concentration, headaches, unexplained aches and pains Chronic stress can affect your immune system and make you vulnerable to infections or disease. It increases your risk of blood pressure, heart disease and digestive problems.
The good news is that non-pharmaceutical modalities such as hypnotherapy and psychotherapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (A.C.T.) can help relieve these symptoms for some women. We can work together to identify the causes of your anxiety, the kind of anxiety, look at your past experiences and programming. Hypnotherapy can help you to take control of your feelings and emotions, which will allow you to understand what can be changed for the better in your life and learn to accept what is beyond your control.
